Steve Harrington thought he and his dog Baxter had a real shot at the local pickleball title. He was wrong.

“I trained him for weeks,” Steve admitted after their first-round loss. “He looked ready. Turns out he can’t hit the ball, can’t return a serve, and mostly just stands there looking proud while I do all the work.”

Baxter’s only contribution was stepping on the ball twice and barking at a missed shot. They were eliminated in under ten minutes.

“I should’ve known better,” Steve said, red-faced. “He’s a dog. Dogs don’t play pickleball. I just really wanted that trophy.”

Baxter, for his part, remains undefeated at looking extremely confident about things he cannot do.
